Original non fiction articles are accepted providing they fit with the site's content. Only submit articles that you have written, do not submit the work of others. If you think their article would be a good fit you may tell them about this site and they can decide if they want to submit or not. Any original piece of short fiction(including fan fiction, poetry, or artwork will be considered. Note: excerpts of longer works are acceptable. I hesitate to state any length requirements at this time, please use common sense. Take into consideration that this is a web site and as such is subject to space limitations. I will not be overly concerned with spelling if it seems to stifle the creative mind. However, use spellcheck whenever possible. I will correct minor grammatical infractions but I will not rewrite your work. As for content, most anything gothic in nature as well as related topics will be considered. Including but not limited to; vampires, witches, dark fantasy, and of course, death. The story does not have to entirely dark and dreary, but dark elements are essential. Materials that are racist will NOT be accepted. Anything that is derogative to women or any certain lifestyles(including homosexuality) will NOT be considered. If you have any questions about content or anything else in regards to Darker Than Thou please e-mail me. Payment will manifest itself in the satisfaction of getting your work seen by whoever happens to come upon this site. If you want payment in dollars this is not the site for you. Please be aware of the copyright laws in your particular country. The appearance of your work in Darker Than Thou does not mean that you have forsaken your copyright in any way, shape, or form. Submitting your work means that you have given permission for it to appear on this site. (nothing more) Please note that an original work is considered copyrighted the minute it is created. However, additional protection is usually provided for a fee in most countries. While your work may be edited for length and content, you will be contacted for approval before the work appears on the site. In most cases, this refers to things like if your story is too long or it has a large amount of spelling and grammar mistakes. ADDITIONAL SUBMISSION TIPS - Please submit your work double spaced and in .txt , .doc , or .rtf (or other formats that wordpad is compatible with).
- In regards to fan fiction please research and find out if the writer or creator of the original work is opposed to it. It is a professional courtesy I would extend to any fellow writer, not to mention there are copyright laws. For example, I know Anne Rice does not like people creating fiction using her characters, especially from the Vampire Chronicles. I will not accept any Anne Rice fan fiction. Please indicate if your work is fan fiction when you submit it in case I am not familiar with the work.
- Please run your story through spell check and grammar check!
- It would be a good idea to provide a little bit of information about yourself when you submit your story.(ie Joe does tech support for an isp and writes in his spare time) If you would like a link back to your site, please provide that as well. Also, if you want your email address listed with your story, be sure to mention that.
- This site does not offer any payment, but there is still a goal of having quality dark fiction. Please be cognisant of the goal of having quality dark fiction, art, and poetry on the site. This does not mean that perfection is expected, only that you should care enough about your work to submit something you have put effort into.
